Passion Week Activities

Nearly 2000 Years ago Jesus made his way to Jerusalem for a week of events that would change the world. On the first day of that week Jesus entered into the city on a donkey - reminiscent of a king. The crowds cheered him, laid palm fronds in his path, and before long began declaring Him the Messiah!

On Palm Sunday we will remember his entrance. It is a time for kids and adults alike to celebrate that Jesus is the King!

But soon the mood changed. Jesus overturned tables ran out of the temple those abusers of the poor. Soon Jesus' life was in peril from the ruling parties. As He sat down on Thursday for the Passover meal with his disciples, He knew the end was very near.

At this meal Jesus not only instituted what we now call the Lord's Supper but also stooped down to wash His disciples feet. This was to be a sign that those who are God's children will see themselves as servants.

Jesus then said, "Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet."

Thus, we are going to follow Jesus' words and do as He asked. On Friday, April 10 we are going to do two things. First, at 6:00 PM we are going to have a time when we literally wash each others' feet as a sign of our willingness to serve each other.

Then, we will watch the movie, "The Passion of the Christ." This is a shocking and moving film that portrays Jesus' last day right before and up to Jesus' death on the cross for us. His death on Good Friday, while gruesome, is the pinnacle of god showing His love for us!

Finally, a great close to our week is Easter Sunday morning! It's our most special day as followers of Jesus! On that day Jesus rose from the dead, overcame death, and allowed us to be overcomers with Him!

We want you to start Easter with your family. Thus, we will not be having Sunday School. We will then have our Easter Celebration starting at 10:30 AM. On this day we will be having a number of people baptized. If you feel led to be baptized, let me know right away!!!

Life is so busy for most of us today. It would be easy for us to treat the events of Holy Week as just one more thing to do. However, please see these events as opportunities to draw closer to the One whom this week is all about!
